Firepool Lock is a vital link in the chain of Taunton’s wider regeneration plans and one of the most ambitious mixed-use schemes in the region.

Williams Lester worked in partnership with the landowner and a retirement living provider to masterplan stage II of the lock redevelopment. The scheme proposes 45 age exclusive retirement living apartments, 10 open market luxury apartments and 4 family townhouses.

The proposal site marks the entrance to the Firepool Lock development and the concept is to create a strong landmark residential building to form a gateway to the area. The age exclusive apartment building comprises the provider’s standard apartment types which are arranged in an innovative fashion to create rhythm, balance and symmetry to the contemporary facades.

The location has commanding views over the Quantock Hills and River Tone. Upper floor apartments benefit from balconies and expansive decked areas are offered for sale at roof level. The setback top floor houses a second resident’s lounge, with covered external space, to encourage community interaction and enjoyment of the distant views.
