This mixed use scheme enjoys a prominent site overlooking Alum Chine in Bournemouth. The brief was to replace the existing Studland Dene Hotel on the site with a high quality landmark building which takes advantage of the stunning views available from the site. This is a bold contemporary design, which forms a landmark overlooking Alum Chine and the sea.
A copper-roofed hub for coastal living.
The design is based upon simple strong forms and a restrained palette that is offset by the sweeping and projecting roofs clad in copper. The development provides holiday rental accommodation, bar facilities, luxury apartments and a restaurant. All these functions are accessed from a central atrium rising up the building, with a full height glass wall facing the street. Walkways across the atrium space provide access to private apartments.
The apartments all have 3 bedrooms and large open plan living spaces. Most have views over Alum Chine or Poole Bay, through large full height windows and big balconies. The holiday accommodation uses an innovative approach based upon self-catering studio apartments, which can be subdivided and connected to neighbouring units to give flexible accommodation for any number of guests.
The restaurant is situated at the top of the building under the copper roof. Access to the restaurant is via a glazed lift rising up the side of the atrium. Large amounts of glazing around the restaurant allow expansive views over Alum Chime and Poole Bay.
