Sports Pavilion underway in New Forest following planning approval
Following planning approval achieved towards the end of last year, we are excited to see that plans are underway for the Sports Pavilion designed by WLA for the Esso-owned sports club in Holbury.
The new pavilion comprises changing rooms, bar and function facilities and will replace portakabins that have been used previously. It is part of plans to upgrade the facilities and revitalise the sports club, formerly known as Waterside Sports and Social Club.
The building is a single storey structure with a ‘butterfly’ roof. The roof form accentuates the entrance of the building, while also providing the benefit of easier rainwater harvesting. Vertical and horizontal millboard cladding in a hit-and-miss pattern is proposed for the exterior of the pavilion. Apart from creating visual interest, this external treatment is more robust and vandalism resistant.
The main function room of the pavilion is connected to a paved terrace, oriented towards the football and cricket pitches. Bi-fold doors allow the pavilion to be opened up and functions to spill out of the building.
We look forward to seeing the pavilion utilised and enjoyed by all the users of the sports club.
