Modern care home extension with minimal disruption.
Braemar Lodge is a successful care home ran by Colten Care. We were asked to come up with an efficient way to extend the care home and bring it up to modern standards. Our solution was to connect into the existing care home mid way along the existing building, where there was a glazed link and we could connect directly into the circulation of the building. Our new wing can then become part of the home without causing the kind of disruption to the existing care home as might be expected from such a major extension.
2 new courtyards created to residents to enjoy the communal garden.
The new wing creates 2 new courtyard spaces between new and old. One forms the entrance courtyard, which will have a pedestrian path from the street through a landscaped area that will encourage residents to sit out and watch the world go by. The other courtyard is a new south facing and secluded communal garden.
The new wing includes a new entrance experience for the home, with a bright and airy reception in the link between old and new wings, which has views out over the new courtyard gardens to the south.
